2/1/2017 – Multiple Stuck Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to search for a stuck vehicle on Henness Pass Rd. Just as assets were being deployed from staging, it was learned that it was actually five vehicles that were stuck, but they had all got themselves “unstuck” and were headed back down. SAR assets were kept at staging. After a seemingly long time, contact was made with them again, and they stated that one of the vehicles in the group kept getting stuck on the way down, so they would have to stop and get him back on the road. After this happened too many times, they left that vehicle on the road, and the other four vehicles proceeded down to staging. When they finally arrived, it was noticed that one of the stuck vehicles was a Subaru wagon that SAR had rescued the driver from in early January.

1/30/2017 – Multiple Stuck Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Bordertown entrance to Dog Valley to rescue six subjects in three vehicles that were stuck on the Long Valley Road, approximately four miles from Bordertown. One subject had a medical condition that could cause an issue if not taken care of quickly. Just before teams arrived at the subject’s location, it was learned that a fourth vehicle had gone in and got one of the stuck vehicles back on the road. All of the subjects were in that vehicle, and were backing down the road. SAR vehicles encountered the group and a medic checked on the possible medical issue. The vehicles got turned around and were followed by SAR back to staging.

1/25/2017 – Missing Snowboarder

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Mt. Rose Ski Resort parking lot to search for a missing snowboarder in the Galena Creek drainage. The snowboarder had started from the summit parking area and was planning on exiting at Sky Tavern. During his excursion, he broke a binding on his snowboard. Two cross-country skiers came across him in the Atoma area, and said that he should follow them to the highway. He declined, saying he felt it was too much uphill for him. His wife contacted 911 and reported that he was missing, and she stated that he had three percent battery level on his phone when they last communicated. RAVEN was asked to assist and was to pick up two Hasty members at the Mt. Rose Ski area parking lot. One ground team was deployed just above the Atoma area. Just before RAVEN was going to land, the wife of the missing subject drove into the parking lot and stated that her husband was at Sky Tavern with his father. She then returned to Sky Tavern. Not long afterwards, all three arrived at the parking lot to talk to SAR command.
