3/27/2018 – Stuck Vehicle

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and the SVU responded to the Moon Rocks off Winnemucca Ranch Rd. to locate a stuck subject off of Bedell Flats Rd. Using a cell phone ping, teams located the subject relatively easily. His vehicle was stuck in a washout and high-centered. The subject was transported by SAR Staff to a hotel in Reno where he could contact a tow service.

3/26/2018 – Stranded 4×4 in Quail Canyon

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and the SVU responded to the entrance to Quail Canyon on SR445 to search for the wife and daughter of a subject that had walked approximately seven miles to get cell phone service to call for help. Their vehicle had slid off a muddy dirt road into a ditch. A Pyramid Lake Officer was able to get to the father, but couldn’t go any farther. The father was brought down to staging and acted as a guide for the teams that were sent in to bring the two other subjects out. The wife and daughter were located in the vehicle about nine miles from staging. They were packaged in warm clothes and blankets, placed in side x sides, and transported down to staging. They were then transported back to Reno.

3/25/2018 – Lost Diamond Peak Snowboarder

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and WCSAR responded to the Diamond Peak Ski Resort to assist resort personnel with a lost snowboarder who had gone out of bounds into the Mill Creek Drainage area. A back-country ski team was transported to the ridgeline above the canyon to meet up with two ski patrol personnel who had located the subject. All teams and the subject exited at Peace Pipe Lane.

3/22/2018 – Diamond Peak Lost Skier

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Diamond Peak to assist Diamond Peak Ski Patrol in locating a skier who went out of bounds and was lost. A two man ski patrol team from the ski resort located the subject, but was having a difficult time in finding a workable route to extract the subject from the area. A four man SAR team was transported to the ridge above the subject by ski resort snowcats, and they were able to catch up with the group below them. The SAR team and ski patrol were able to slowly guide the subject down Mill Creek Canyon to an extraction point on Peace Pipe Lane where SAR vehicles met them. All searchers and the subject were then transported back to staging.

3/22/2018 – Mt. Rose Highway Avalanche

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to an initial staging location at the NDF fire station on the Mt. Rose Highway to deploy probe teams to an avalanche that covered a portion of the highway near the summit. Before SAR teams reached the avalanche site, Mt. Rose Ski Patrol personnel probed the area with nothing located.
