12/27/22 – Stranded Family

SAR Staff and the SVU began responding to the Palomino Valley area to locate a family of three that had become stuck in snow in the mountains. As teams were en route, the subjects were able to get assistance from a local homeowner. SAR response was cancelled.

12/17/22 – Stranded Hunters

SAR Staff, the SVU, and a Hasty Medic responded with tracked vehicles to a location on SR447 northwest of Gerlach to locate two hunters whose vehicle had broken down. They were not prepared for a walk back to camp of approximately six miles in the deep snow. As SAR personnel were en route, the IMT made contact with the subjects and encouraged the to keep moving as best they could. SAR personnel on tracked vehicles located the subjects and provided an initial medical evaluation, then transported them to staging for further medical evaluation.

12/17/22 – Lost Hunter

SAR Staff, the SVU, and a Hasty medic responded to an area near Winnemucca Ranch Rd. to locate a hunter that had become disoriented in the fog. SVU SxSs were able to drive to within approximately 1/4 of a mile, then walked to the subject. The subject and his dogs were transported down to the subject’s vehicle.
