2/21/2017 – Avalanche

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Mt. Rose Ski Resort parking lot to stage for a search of the Mt. Rose Highway, just below the summit, where an avalanche had covered the road. It was feared at least one vehicle was trapped. Probe teams were initially sent to the approximately 200 yard slide that was up to 20 feet deep, but probe poles were not long enough in many places. A secondary team was brought in with a RECCO to scan the area. Nothing was located.

2/19/2017 – Out of Bounds Snowboarder

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to various locations to locate a 12yo snowboarder that skied out of bounds from the Slide Mountain side of the Mount Rose Ski Resort. Cell phone pings placed him approximately 1000′ to the SE of the end of Hibbits Trail. A ski team was deployed from Slide Mountain, foot teams began entrance from Hibbits Trail, and containment was placed at David Creek Park. Avalanche forecasts were moderate for the area, so the foot teams on Hibbits Trail were held in place. The ski team, along with a Mt. Rose Ski Resort employee, located the subject and escorted him up to Hibbits Trail and to a waiting vehicle. He was brought back to the Mt. Rose Ski Resort to be reunited with his parents.

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Erin Drive area of Spanish Springs to search for a missing 11yo female that had been last seen about four hours previous. Deputies were checking areas, and a reverse 911 call was put out. Just as teams were being deployed to search neighborhood streets, a resident of a house approximately four blocks from staging (who received the reverse 911 message) called, stating that the juvenile was at her house. Deputies went to the house and returned the juvenile to her home.
