1/11/2017 – County Radio Shop Assist

The SVU transported Washoe County Radio Shop personnel to the top of Virginia Peak so that they could conduct maintenance on the repeater system that had been malfunctioning. A heavy coating of ice on antennas appeared to be causing the problem.

1/10/2017 – Stranded Vehicle

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the 7th Street area of Sun Valley to locate two subjects in a stuck UTV. Their cell phone ping placed them in the hills to the west of Sun Valley. A SAR team quickly located the subjects and got them back on an established dirt road. They were safely escorted out of the area.

1/10/2017 – Multiple Stranded Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the N. Virginia entrance to Peavine to locate numerous vehicles that were stranded on the main Peavine Road. Five vehicles were located approximately 1.5 miles from staging. They were in the process of self extracting themselves. SAR assets stayed on scene until all vehicles were safely headed downhill, then escorted them to SAR Staff at staging.

1/10/2017 – Public Assist

SAR Staff, Animal Control, and SVU traveled to Palomino Valley to deliver hay for the horses of a resident who cannot get to the main road due to flooding.

1/10/2017 – Stranded Motorists

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR once again responded to the Henness Pass area to search for stranded motorists. Interstate 80 had been closed due to snow, so motorists were using map apps that took them on this route. The initial call was for three adults and four children, but they self extracted before SAR assets arrived. However, while teams were checking the road, another vehicle was located with three subjects. They were transported to staging, where SAR staff delivered them to Gold Ranch.
