4/9/2016 – Lost Subject

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley on the report of a stranded subject. He had intended to go camping in Dog Valley, but turned around at Summit 1 on Henness Pass Rd. due to the rainy weather. Cell phone coordinates placed him a little over one mile up the road, and when teams located the vehicle, he was just parked in the middle of the road. He was escorted down to staging for SAR Staff to deal with.

4/5/2016 – Lost Mountain Biker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Hibbits Trail Road area to search for a 72yo mountain biker who was off trail and lost. The subject had ridden from his house near the Reindeer Lodge, down Hibbits Trail Road past the house, and kept going – not stopping at the end of the road. A foot team located him approximately 1/2 mile below the end of the road in the Winter’s Creek drainage. The decision was made to bring the subject, who was complaining of shoulder pain from a fall he took while walking with his mountain bike, downhill, rather than back up to the road. Hiking conditions turned out to be extremely difficult, but with the help of a foot team coming up from the bottom, the subject was safely delivered to a staging location north of Davis Creek Park. He was checked by REMSA and his wife transported him back home.

3/19/2016 – Lost Subject above Pinehaven

SAR Staff, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the dirt extension of Pine Bluff Trail to search for a lost subject. His vehicle had become stuck in snow on the road to Hunter Lake, so the female companion decided to walk out for help. She was located by a passing ATV, which brought her down to the staging location. As teams were preparing to head toward the cell phone ping of the missing subject, he walked out at the Pinehaven entrance to Hunter Lake (he had been told to stay where he was, but chose not to).
