SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to a the Palamino Valley area to perform fire evacuation notices for residences in the area of the Pioche Fire.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and WCSAR assisted Carson City and Douglas County in searching for a missing/lost subject in the Skunk Harbor area of Lake Tahoe. The subject had gone hiking the previous afternoon and was not heard from at a predetermined time. Ground teams searched the area into Saturday night before the mission was suspended. Teams were about to begin again early Sunday morning, but a Fallon Longhorn helicopter located the subject on the shore of Lake Tahoe and performed a hoist. The subject was taken to a landing zone where he was checked out by medical personnel.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, and WCSAR responded to the Mt. Rose Meadows area to search for an overdue female hiker on the TRT who failed to check in at a predetermined time. Douglas County requested Washoe County Search and Rescue’s assistance with this mission. A 4-person HASTY team was dispatched to the last know sighting of the individual and was able to make contact near the Diamond Peak Ski resort. The subject was OK and had sent the contact/check-in message but it failed to reach it’s destination, her mother.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Lemmon Drive and Pompe on the report of a possible glider crash in the hills to the north of Lemmon Valley. A dirt bike rider reported that he had seen a glider in a steep dive that he felt the glider could not recover from. It disappeared behind the hills. Care Flight was in the area, but could not locate any wreckage, TMFPD checked some roads, and SAR ground units checked areas with negative results.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to assist PLSAR and PL Police in locating a boater that was possibly having problems. A reporting party had observed the subject through binoculars from a good distance, towing his boat by swimming and having a rope around his waist. When PLSAR got in the area, nothing was located. Marine, Air, and Ground searchers were unable to locate a boat and/or the subject, although there was a truck with an empty trailer at the launch. Pyramid Lake SAR was going to check again in the morning.
