2/15/20 – Stranded Family

SAR Staff, Air Squadron, SVU, and WCSAR began responding to an area northeast of Nixon to search for a family of three that had become stranded due to mechanical difficulties in the Nightingale Mining District. As teams were arriving in the Nixon area, the reporting party called to state that a good Samaritan had come across their vehicle and was giving them a ride out to Fernley.

2/12/20 – Evidence Search

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR assisted WCSO detectives with an evidence search in the Zolezzi Lane area, relative to a homicide investigation.

2/11/20 – Lost Hikers

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and WCSAR responded to the Galena Creek Visitors Center to locate two hikers that were disoriented on one one of the trails. Back Country teams quickly located he hikers and guided them back to staging.

2/8/20 – Black Rock Stranded Family

SAR Staff and the SVU traveled to the Black Rock Desert to locate a family of four that were stranded in mud approximately 13 miles east of CR34. Using a map screen shot from the subject’s phone, SVU members were able to navigate to the location and extricate the vehicle from the mud. SVU members then guided the subjects around other wet areas and back to the staging location.

2/7/20 – Injured Snowboarder

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Sheeps Flat area of the Mt. Rose Highway to rescue an injured back-country snowboarder. Due to the location of the subject, it was decided that a helicopter hoist operation would be the best way for extraction. Once the subject was packaged and hoisted, RAVEN made the transport to a waiting ambulance at the Mt. Rose Highway.
