9/7/2018 – Possible Glider Crash

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Lemmon Drive and Pompe on the report of a possible glider crash in the hills to the north of Lemmon Valley. A dirt bike rider reported that he had seen a glider in a steep dive that he felt the glider could not recover from. It disappeared behind the hills. Care Flight was in the area, but could not locate any wreckage, TMFPD checked some roads, and SAR ground units checked areas with negative results.

9/3/2018 – Possible Missing Boater at Pyramid Lake

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to assist PLSAR and PL Police in locating a boater that was possibly having problems. A reporting party had observed the subject through binoculars from a good distance, towing his boat by swimming and having a rope around his waist. When PLSAR got in the area, nothing was located. Marine, Air, and Ground searchers were unable to locate a boat and/or the subject, although there was a truck with an empty trailer at the launch. Pyramid Lake SAR was going to check again in the morning.

9/2/2018 – Slide Mountain Plane Crash/Fire

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the area of David Creek Park on the report of a plane crash that sparked a fire. Teams were pre-staged at various locations to alert hikers of the fire, as well as to perform evacuation notices for residences in the Bowers Mansion/Franktown Rd. area if needed. The fire was kept in check by a heavy air attack assault, and fire evacuation notices were not needed. As far as the plane crash, witnesses reported it to be a powered glider. Fire personnel that reached the area on foot did not find any survivors.

9/1/2018 – Garson Road EMS

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Garson Road entrance to Hunter Lake on the report of a subject experiencing a medical episode approximately four miles from the staging area. As teams were arriving at staging, Care Flight was able to access the subject, stabilize, and transport to a hospital.
