Interstate 80 had been closed due to snow, so motorists were using map apps that took them on this route. 1/9/2017 – Stranded Motorists

SAR Staff and the SVU responded to the Henness Pass Rd. out of Verdi to locate a stranded motorist. As teams were headed up the road….the road that has multiple signs warning that it is not maintained and not to trust your GPS (Interstate 80 was closed), one abandoned vehicle was located, then a second abandoned vehicle. As teams traveled further up, the subject that had called 911 for help was located. The vehicle was left there, and he was loaded up to transport down to staging. Part of the team headed up to check the road to First Summit, but nothing was located. On the way down, a vehicle was found at the spot where the first abandoned vehicle was located, stuck in the ditch. That subject was also transported down to staging where both of them were taken to Gold Ranch Casino.
