1/2/2017 – Stranded Vehicle

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU staged at the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to locate a stranded subject on the Henness Pass Rd., below the first summit. On the way in, four vehicles were encountered, none of which were the reporting party. One of the four vehicles was stuck, one had driven in to assist, a third was attempting to get the first vehicle unstuck, and the fourth was assisting. One SAR asset was left at this location while the others traveled on to locate the reporting party. The subjects were located just below the first summit – not stuck, but couldn’t go up, and couldn’t turn around. With assistance from SAR personnel, the vehicle was safely turned around and escorted back to staging. Meanwhile, the first stuck vehicle was pulled out by a private citizen, but one of the other vehicles that had come up to help had now slid into the ditch. The private citizen pulled out this vehicle, and both of these vehicles traveled uphill to a location where they could safely turn around, escorted by SAR. This was successfully completed, and all vehicles were escorted down to staging.

1/2/2017 – Multiple Stranded Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to locate multiple stranded subjects on Henness Pass Rd. Interstate 80 was closed due to snow, and map apps showed Henness Pass Rd. to be the next best route. Two vehicles were located with no occupants, and approximately eight vehicles were encountered coming down from the first summit back to Verdi. The area was cleared to Summit Two with no other vehicles located. SAR assets were released.
