7/1/2016 – Lost Subjects in Hunter Creek Canyon

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR began responding to the Michael Thompson Trailhead on the report of two lost teenagers on the Hunter Creek Trail. Before SAR assets arrived, the subjects were located by a WCSO Deputy near the restrooms at the trailhead. SAR response was cancelled.

6/29/2016 – Boat in Distress

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU began responding to Pyramid Lake on the report of a boat in distress. As teams were en route, information from the subjects indicated that the wind had changed and that they were blowing toward the Pyramid, about 200 yards away. Shortly after that, Pyramid Lake Rangers stated that they could handle the call. SAR assets were cancelled.

6/25/2016 – Injured Dirt Bike Rider

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Winnemucca Ranch Rd. to locate an injured dirt bike rider. Four subjects were on a trip from Truckee to Gerlach when one of the riders crashed. They set off a spot device and requested help. Initial SAR teams at the scene discovered that he had possibly broken some bones, but he initially stated that he could probably endure a ride out in a vehicle. When some advanced SAR medics arrived at the location, it was determined that the best plan would be to request Careflight. A landing zone was marked, Careflight arrived at the scene, and the patient was flown to a Reno hospital. The subject’s dirt bike was transported back to staging by a WCSAR truck.

6/25/2016 – Missing Dementia Patient

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Cascades Assisted Living Facility in Spanish Springs to search for a missing dementia patient. Teams checked surrounding neighborhoods, fields, and facility property, along with going door to door in the facility. The subject was located in another Cascades resident’s room.

6/22/2016 – Truckee River Rescue

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and WCSAR responded to the area of the first entrance to Verdi from Interstate 80 to assist in the rescue of some rafters having difficulty. As SAR assets arrived in the area, TMFPD personnel located and safely escorted the subjects to the riverbank.
