11/3/2015 – Missing Hiker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR assisted Carson City SAR and Douglas County SAR in searching for a missing elderly hiker in the Brunswick Canyon area. The subject had gone hiking with his dogs earlier the previous afternoon, just as rain and snow entered the area. He did not come back, nor did the dogs, and Carson City SAR searched during the evening and early morning hours. 6″ – 8″ of snow blanketed the area during the night. As the Tuesday morning search progressed, a ground team heard a dog, and located dog tracks. They came upon the dogs and the subject, who was curled up under a tree, exhibiting extreme hypothermic conditions. RAVEN was in the area, and quickly came on scene. A RAVEN crew member was lowered to the subjects location and was assisted by SAR members with packaging the subject. He was hoisted up to RAVEN and flown to a waiting Careflight helicopter at the Carson City airport.
