Recent Search – 5/9/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Michael Thompson Trailhead to search for a subject that was overdue from a hike up the Hunter Creek Trail.  As teams were arriving at staging, other hikers stated that they had seen him slowly coming down the trail, and that he was approximately one mile from the trailhead.  Foot teams located him about 3/4 of a mile up the trail, and assisted him to the staging area.

Recent Search 5/5/2014 – 5/8/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR were requested to search for a missing subject whose vehicle was located in a dry creek bed approximately 11 miles northeast of Nixon in Coyote Canyon.  The subject had been reported missing from Amador County on April 21st.  An off-roader had come across the vehicle on Saturday, May 3rd.  He took pictures and recorded the GPS location, did some research on the vehicle, discovered it belonged to the missing subject, and notified Amador County on Monday, May 5th.  For four days, teams searched over 80 square miles of territory using foot searchers, 4×4’s, a helicopter, ATV’s, horses, and a dog team.  Other than the vehicle, nothing was located.  Besides Washoe County SAR teams, assistance was requested from Carson SAR, Carson Horse Posse, Churchill County SAR, Douglas SAR, Humboldt County SAR, Lyon County SAR, Pershing County SAR, Pyramid Lake SAR, and Pyramid Lake Police.  A huge thank you goes to these outside agencies – your resources were greatly appreciated!

Recent EMS – 5/2/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR assisted Truckee Meadow Fire in locating and transporting a subject on the Hunter Creek Trail that was complaining of possible dehydration.  Teams packaged the subject for RAVEN to hoist, and she was transported down to the staging location at the Michael Thompson Trailhead where she was met by REMSA.

Water Rescue – 4/4/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to search for a child and his father who had been blown out into the lake in the area of Sand Hole Beach along SR446.  The young boy had been floating on a mini cataraft when a heavy winds came through from a passing storm cell and blew him out into the lake.  His father, in a float tube, attempted to catch up to him.  As SAR teams were arriving on scene, Boat 243 from Pyramid Lake SAR got into the area and located the pair.  The Pyramid Lake Police boat was also in the area.  The two subjects were located approximately 500 yards from shore and were towed into the beach where waiting SAR personnel brought them onto shore.

Recent Search – 4/4/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR assisted WCSO Deputies in searching for a missing 10yo subject in the Lois Allen area of Sun Valley.  Teams searched the neighborhoods, both south and north of the school, along with the Red Peak area.  A relative located the subject in the area of Highlands Ranch Road and returned him to his home.  He evidently had lost his bearings while chasing a pet rabbit.
