SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR, along with Carson SAR, Douglas SAR, the FBI, NHP, NLTFPD, RPD, and WCSO Deputies assisted WCSO detectives in searching for a missing four year old that went missing in the Callahan Ranch area, off of the Mt. Rose Highway. The little girl had last been seen by a parent at about 2:30p.m., and SAR response arrived at approximately 4:30p.m. Search teams checked the house, adjacent properties, hills, and dirt roads in the area. At approximately 7:40p.m., two citizens located the subject, who was seen hiding from them in sagebrush, on a dirt road about 1.2 miles from the residence. The citizens called 911, and RAVEN directed a SAR search team that was in the area to the location. The subject was scared, but was fine otherwise. She was brought back to staging and reunited with her parents.

Recent Rescue – 8/7/2014

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Washoe Lake area to search for an injured, lost dirtbike rider. The original staging was at the Jumbo Grade OHV parking area, but due to the location of the subject, staging was changed to the parking lot of Little Washoe Lake. RAVEN was able to locate the subject and give good coordinates, along with the best route for searchers to take to the location. When searchers located the subject, he declined any medical assistance for a hand injury sustained when he dumped his dirtbike. The dirtbike, however, was not operable, so search teams were able to strap it in the back of a side x side and bring it, along with the subject, back to staging.

SAR Staff and Hasty Team responded to Kiowa Pond to recover a vehicle that was spotted in the water. Due to the low levels of the pond, the vehicle was starting to become visible. It was apparently stolen and dumped a number of years ago.

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Pinehaven entrance to Hunter Lake to search for seven lost subjects in two vehicles that were supposedly heading to Moss Lake. The information came in a round-about way from the CHP, and original cell phone coordinates put them in California, near the I-80 corridor around Floriston, CA. Brief conversations to SAR command mentioned two road numbers that were traveled on, and would place them much higher than Moss Lake, closer to the area west of Hunter Lake. Two ATV teams and one 4×4 team headed up from Pinehaven toward Hunter Lake, and other 4×4 teams traveled to the Garson Road entrance to Hunter Lake. A subsequent cell phone ping placed them in the area of the road coming up from Garson entrance, and not long after, SAR teams encountered the two vehicles coming down the road. All subjects were fine, and were met at the bottom by a deputy that took a report. On the way back to staging, the ATV teams met up with a subject in a vehicle that was very confused as to how to get out of the area. He was instructed to turn around and follow the ATV’s back to staging.
