11/6/2015 – Sidescan Sonar Mission

SAR Staff and SVU traveled to Pyramid Lake with the goal of deploying a sidescan sonar system to search for the drowning subject from 10/31. Rough water conditions prevented launching of the boats. The mission has been postponed until next week.

11/3/2015 – Missing Hiker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR assisted Carson City SAR and Douglas County SAR in searching for a missing elderly hiker in the Brunswick Canyon area. The subject had gone hiking with his dogs earlier the previous afternoon, just as rain and snow entered the area. He did not come back, nor did the dogs, and Carson City SAR searched during the evening and early morning hours. 6″ – 8″ of snow blanketed the area during the night. As the Tuesday morning search progressed, a ground team heard a dog, and located dog tracks. They came upon the dogs and the subject, who was curled up under a tree, exhibiting extreme hypothermic conditions. RAVEN was in the area, and quickly came on scene. A RAVEN crew member was lowered to the subjects location and was assisted by SAR members with packaging the subject. He was hoisted up to RAVEN and flown to a waiting Careflight helicopter at the Carson City airport.

10/31/2015 – Pyramid Lake Drowning

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake to assist PLTP in searching for a subject that fell from a fishing boat just south of Spider Point. Efforts to locate the subject were not successful and further efforts will need to wait until inclement weather clears the area.

10/29/2015 – EMS Callout

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Spooner Lake entrance to the Marlette trail on the report of an injured mountain biker near the dam at Marlette Lake. As teams were being deployed, Douglas Fire made contact with the subject, stabilized him, and Careflight transported him to a hospital.

10/25-26/2015 – Overdue Hunters

SAR Staff, Air Squadron, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to areas north of Gerlach to search for two overdue hunters. Information from a family member stated the missing subjects had a hunting tag for area 011, which is in the far north section of Washoe County, bordering the Oregon border. Information was also given that they may be in the Lost Creek and Fox Mountain areas. Teams searched the main roads in all areas throughout the night. When morning arrived, the Air Squadron checked areas north of Vya. At approximately noon, it was learned that the hunters showed up in Gerlach, unaware of the search for them. They were tracking a deer they had shot, and did not communicate their change in plans with family members. The hunting area information was incorrect, but they were in the Lost Creek area, closer to the SR447 end of the route. Their campsite (the vehicle description given by the reporting party was incorrect) was not seen during the night portion of the search.
