12/10/2016 – Skier Caught in Avalanche

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR were requested to respond to the Mt. Rose Ski Resort and assist Mt. Rose ski patrol, NLTFPD, and TMFPD on the report of a skier that was caught in an avalanche. The subject, and one other skier, had hiked to a closed area known as the “chutes”. The missing subject was first to enter the area, and was immediately swept away by a large slab avalanche. The second skier called 911. Dog teams and probing teams searched the area until dark before being pulled out due to dangerous conditions. The search was suspended until the next morning.

12/6/2016 – Multiple Stuck Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley on the report of multiple vehicles that were stuck on the Henness Pass Rd. A semi-truck accident on Interstate 80 had closed the freeway for hours, and people were attempting to get around the closed area by driving the road past Boca and Stampede, then east on Henness Pass Rd. As teams were heading up to Summit One, the first team, comprised of two Hasty trucks, ran into a CHP vehicle that stated he had assisted the six vehicles that were stuck and sent them down into Dog Valley to get to Highway 395. He had not checked all the way to the road that comes by Boca and Stampede, so a SVU team checked that area, but did not find any vehicles. Teams returned to staging.

12/4/2016 – Stuck Subjects

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to both the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley, as well as the Bordertown entrance on a report of three females that slid off a road in Dog Valley while Christmas tree hunting. As teams were en route from staging to the possible area of the subjects, it was learned that CHP and Sierra County SO had located and assisted the subjects while out on different call. Teams returned to staging.

12/2/2016 – Missing Juvenile

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR assisted RPD in locating an autistic 12yo female, missing from an apartment on Idlewild Drive. As teams were arriving at staging in Idlewild Park, the child was located in the Keystone Ave. area.

11/29/2016 – Lost Hiker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Diamond Peak Ski Resort to search for a missing 70yo female hiker. Her husband had dropped her off at the north entrance to the Incline flume trail at 2:00p.m., but she did not meet him at the resort at the designated pick-up time of 5:00p.m. Some calls and texts were exchanged between the two, and then her phone went dead. Ground teams were sent in from three locations – the north entrance to the trail, from Tyrolia Village, and from the mid-way point of Diamond Peak Ski Resort (transported by UTVs). After approximately 90 minutes, one of the ground teams located possible tracks, then shortly after, got voice contact. When she was located, the subject was given snacks, fluids, and warm clothing. The hike out was guided by RAVEN, since they were off trail, coming down a steep drainage. When the ground teams and the subject arrived at staging, she refused medical, then was reunited with her husband.
