1/8/2017 – Flood Evacuations

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Lakeside Dr./Holcomb Ranch Rd. area to conduct evacuation notices for residences that were being flooded, or endangered of being flooded, from overflowing ponds and the Steamboat Ditch.

1/4/2017 – Stranded Subjects

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR were again requested to search for multiple stranded motorists on the Henness Pass Rd. Interstate 80 was closed, so map apps have guided wayward motorists through this impassable route. 4×4 teams were almost able to make it to the first summit, but were blocked by heavy, wet snow. Possible tracks had gone farther, but they were getting covered by the snow. Two tracked ATV’s traveled farther, past the first summit, and a good portion of the way to the second summit, but nothing was located. On the way down, a van that did not stop at the road block, was located stuck. The van was occupied by 10 subjects on their way to California. Six of the subjects were transported down to staging, where they were then transported to the Gold Ranch truck stop. SAR teams were able to get the van chained up, unstuck, and turned around. The other four occupants were escorted down to staging.

1/2/2017 – Stranded Vehicle

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU staged at the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to locate a stranded subject on the Henness Pass Rd., below the first summit. On the way in, four vehicles were encountered, none of which were the reporting party. One of the four vehicles was stuck, one had driven in to assist, a third was attempting to get the first vehicle unstuck, and the fourth was assisting. One SAR asset was left at this location while the others traveled on to locate the reporting party. The subjects were located just below the first summit – not stuck, but couldn’t go up, and couldn’t turn around. With assistance from SAR personnel, the vehicle was safely turned around and escorted back to staging. Meanwhile, the first stuck vehicle was pulled out by a private citizen, but one of the other vehicles that had come up to help had now slid into the ditch. The private citizen pulled out this vehicle, and both of these vehicles traveled uphill to a location where they could safely turn around, escorted by SAR. This was successfully completed, and all vehicles were escorted down to staging.

1/2/2017 – Multiple Stranded Vehicles

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to locate multiple stranded subjects on Henness Pass Rd. Interstate 80 was closed due to snow, and map apps showed Henness Pass Rd. to be the next best route. Two vehicles were located with no occupants, and approximately eight vehicles were encountered coming down from the first summit back to Verdi. The area was cleared to Summit Two with no other vehicles located. SAR assets were released.

12/30/2016 – Stranded Subjects

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR staged at the turn-off to Moonrocks to search for two subjects that were stranded somewhere on the Winnemucca Ranch Rd., en route to the Fish Springs area. One of the subjects was fortunate enough to have enough reception to get a text message off before her phone died, giving the approximate location. Teams located the subjects in their stuck vehicle approximately 12.5 miles from staging. They were checked by a medic and transported back to staging.
