9/2/2017 – Stranded UTV

SAR Staff and SVU responded to the N. Virginia entrance to Peavine to locate and assist two people that had incurred damage to their UTV while off-roading. The damage was severe enough to prevent any moving of the UTV, so the subjects and their gear were transported down to staging. The subjects were able to retrieve their UTV the following day.

9/2-9/3/2017 – Pyramid Lake Patrol

The SVU performed safety patrols at Pyramid Lake during the Labor Day weekend. Courtesy reminders about wearing PFD’s while paddle boarding, having a spotter on a PWC while towing a skier, and tows of boats and PWC were performed.

8/29/2017 – Boat in Distress

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake on the report of a boat in distress in the Windless Bay area. Ground units were able to get eyes on the boat and determined that it would occasionally go under power for a short distance, then stop. Marine 20 was launched, and upon arrival at the boat, determined that the subjects were never in distress, but were taking pictures of the clouds and enjoying a quiet evening on the lake. The signal mirror that was reported to have been used was most likely the lens from their camera.
