SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU responded to Pelican Point to assist Pyramid Lake Tribal Police in locating a boat that was reported to be taking on water. Winds were gusting to 40mph when the call was initiated. As assets were arriving at the lake, PLTPD located the boat about one mile east of Spider point, and initiated a tow. It turned out that they were not taking on water, but did not have any electrical power. While this boat was being towed back, another report came in concerning a boat that was stranded near the Pyramid due to large waves. M10 was launched and located the subjects behind some rocks near the Pyramid. They did not want to come straight across the lake due to large waves. They did, however, suggest following a northerly route along the shoreline where the waves were not as large. M10 began to shadow the boat, but the lake started calming down, so it was decided that M10 would “break trail” for the subject’s boat, straight across the lake to Pelican Point. This proved to be successful, since the lake calmed down considerably on their trip back. All subjects were safely delivered to the staging location.
