SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pelican Point on the report of a small sailboat in distress. While en route, PLPD put their boat in the water, but was not able to locate the vessel. Marine 10 and 20 were launched, with M10 heading to the Anahoe Island area, and M20 doing search patterns off of the area where the boat was last seen, Spider Point. Although it was smokey, visibility was good when using NVG’s, and nothing was being seen in the area. A shore search team came across a large sailboat that was anchored in the cove just north of Spider Point. They made contact with them just as M20 came into the area. There had been a miscommunication between the reporting party on shore, and the vessel operator as to “needing help”. SAR teams returned to staging for a debrief and headed back to Reno.
