SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to an area below the Reindeer Lodge, as well as Davis Creek Park to search for two snowboarders who had gone out of bounds at the Mt. Rose Ski area, and got lost. Cell phone pings placed them between Winters Creek and Davis Creek Park in an area of high avalanche danger. Foot teams, coming in from an area south of the Reindeer Lodge, were able to locate the subjects and safely guide them down to Davis Creek Park.
SAR Staff and the SVU traveled to Pyramid Lake to perform sidescan sonar work relative to the two fishermen that went missing on January 1st of this year.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley on the report of two dirt bikers that were disoriented, and had run out of gas. The subjects had supplied a coordinate from a phone, and described their location as having a lot of snow. 4×4’s were sent in through Sommersett, and ATV’s traveled in through Dog Valley. The ATV team was able to locate the two subjects in the general area of the coordinates, but road sign numbers were much more helpful in this case….which is what the subjects had described when talking to SAR staff. Due to snowy road conditions, and the distance back to staging, the dirt bikes were left at the location, and the subjects were safely transported back to staging.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU responded to Pyramid Lake to complete the recovery of a drowning victim from October 31st of 2015. Sidescan sonar work from two weeks previous was able to locate the subject, and this mission was for divers to make the recovery. Once the target and buoy system was successfully dropped at the correct location, and sidescan sonar was able to verify that the target was within 10 feet of the victim, the dive team was deployed. Since the subject was at a depth of 95′, time in the water was very limited for the divers, but they successfully recovered the subject.
SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR were staged at the Save Mart in Spanish Springs to search for a missing hiker. The subject had left earlier in the day to hike to Spanish Springs Peak, and was too check in with his wife at a certain time. Unfortunately, he lost cell reception when he was supposed to contact his wife. He hiked out safely, called his wife, and a SAR team transported him to staging.
