IMT, Hasty, RAVEN, and WCSAR responded to the area of Rattlesnake Mountain to search for a subject that was heard by a person yelling for help. Ground teams, along with RAVEN, thoroughly searched the north side of the mountain, but did not locate anyone. The search was suspended.

11/19/2017 – Stranded Motorist

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to a staging location at Warriors Point to search for a subject that had been stranded for approximately three days. He stated that he was out of food and water, and was very cold. A cell phone ping placed him off of SR445 near Flanigan. The subject and his vehicle were located in the area, off of the road in the general area of Flanigan. He was treated for hypothermia at the scene and transported to a REMSA ambulance waiting at Doyle.

11/18/2017 – Boat in Distress

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pelican Point dock to search for a boat that called for assistance from the Hell’s Kitchen area. RAVEN was already in the air on patrol, so they made it to the lake relatively quickly. Just before SAR boats arrived at staging, RAVEN located the boat in distress, beached at the south end of Hell’s Kitchen. Both M10 and M20 were launched, and with the coordinates supplied from RAVEN, arrived at the location approximately 25 minutes later. The boat had experienced mechanical difficulties, so they were able to beach the boat and build a fire to keep warm. M10 initiated a tow while M20 shadowed the two boats back to staging.

11/16/2017 – River Rescue

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and WCSAR responded to Larkin Drive in Sparks to begin searching for a possible subject in the Truckee River. While driving on Interstate 80, a citizen had spotted a kayak on the shore, then saw what he believed to be a person holding onto some debris in the river. Sparks FD checked the area, but found nothing, nor did Storey County Deputies. TMFPD personnel were then called and located the kayak, which turned out to be a kayak that had been on the shore for a couple of months. To be cautious, Hasty Team personnel floated the river down to Lockwood, and WCSAR foot searchers checked the banks. Nothing was located.
