8/29/2017 – Boat in Distress

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pyramid Lake on the report of a boat in distress in the Windless Bay area. Ground units were able to get eyes on the boat and determined that it would occasionally go under power for a short distance, then stop. Marine 20 was launched, and upon arrival at the boat, determined that the subjects were never in distress, but were taking pictures of the clouds and enjoying a quiet evening on the lake. The signal mirror that was reported to have been used was most likely the lens from their camera.

8/27/2017 – SPOT Activation

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR were requested to respond to an area north of Gerlach for a SPOT device activation by a hunter. As teams were en route, Gerlach deputies were able to locate the subject and determined that the SPOT activation was accidental. SAR was cancelled.

8/26/2017 – Stranded Subject in a UTV

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and SVU responded to Bird Springs and Red Rock to search for a wheel chair dependent UTV driver whose machine was stuck. Teams were able to locate the subject with cell phone coordinates that were provided. The UTV was stuck in a location that prevented the SVU from extracting it, so the subject was transferred over to a SVU side x side for transport back to staging.

8/22/2017 – Argosy Fire Evacuation

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the intersection of Argosy and Red Rock to perform fire evacuation notices for the area. As teams were arriving at staging, rain showers came through the area. Fire officials downgraded the urgency for notifications, so SAR response was cancelled.
