6/18/2017 – Fire Evacuation

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Gold Ranch for possible fire evacuations in the Quilici Ranch and west Verdi areas. Teams were kept on standby in case the fire, which was moving westerly, went up the canyon to Floriston, or crossed the river toward west Verdi. Neither of these scenarios played out, so teams were released.

6/16/2017 – Overdue Mountain Biker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Galena High School area on the report of an overdue jogger. The subject had gone running in the area behind Galena High School during his lunch break from a medical office. He did not return, had patients that were scheduled, so coworkers called 911. Ground teams began searching trails, roads, and gullies in the area to the south of Galena High School. A ground team located the subject, who had actually been on his mountain bike, injured in the middle of a dirt road in the hills above the school. Due to his injuries, Care Flight was requested, but was unable to land anywhere near the patient. RAVEN had also been requested due to this possibility and arrived on scene to hoist the subject. The subject was hoisted into the helicopter, flown to Galena High School, and transferred over to Care Flight.

6/13/2017 – Abandoned Kayak

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, and WCSAR responded to various areas along the Truckee River from River Bend to west Reno on the report of a red kayak that was spotted without anyone in it. As teams were starting their search, information was learned that this was an old, lost kayak that had been in the river for a lengthy period of time. SAR response was cancelled.

6/3/2017 – Missing Kayaker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR began responding to Pyramid Lake on the report of an overdue kayaker from Separator Beach. As teams were leaving Reno, the subject returned to the beach that he was missing from. SAR response was cancelled.
