6/26/2017 – Stuck Off-Roaders

SAR Staff and SVU responded to Quail Canyon Rd. and SR445 to search for a family of eight that was stuck in a muddy area approximately seven miles from the staging location. The family had been off-roading the previous day and became stuck in a muddy area near a spring. No cell service existed, so after attempting to self-extricate, the father walked down to the highway, then walked the highway until he got cell phone service. He was able to call 911 and three deputies met him on the highway. They drove in as far as they could, which was about four miles. They then walked to the stuck vehicle, but it was too far for the small children to walk back. SAR was then called for assistance. Four side x sides went to the location, and after two trips, brought the family of eight and one deputy back to the staging location.
