11/29/2016 – Lost Hiker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Diamond Peak Ski Resort to search for a missing 70yo female hiker. Her husband had dropped her off at the north entrance to the Incline flume trail at 2:00p.m., but she did not meet him at the resort at the designated pick-up time of 5:00p.m. Some calls and texts were exchanged between the two, and then her phone went dead. Ground teams were sent in from three locations – the north entrance to the trail, from Tyrolia Village, and from the mid-way point of Diamond Peak Ski Resort (transported by UTVs). After approximately 90 minutes, one of the ground teams located possible tracks, then shortly after, got voice contact. When she was located, the subject was given snacks, fluids, and warm clothing. The hike out was guided by RAVEN, since they were off trail, coming down a steep drainage. When the ground teams and the subject arrived at staging, she refused medical, then was reunited with her husband.

11/27/2016 – Stranded Family

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Verdi entrance to Dog Valley to search for a family of seven – two adults and five children, stuck in the snow while Christmas tree hunting. Using a cell phone ping, SAR vehicles were able to locate the subjects on the road to Verdi Peak. They were safely extricated and escorted back to staging.

11/19/2016 – Lost Hikers

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to both the north Galena Creek entrance to the Jones Creek/Whites Creek Loop, and the Whites Creek entrance to search for two lost hikers in the Church’s Pond area. As members were arriving at staging, the female subject walked into the upper lot. While interviewing the female at staging, it
became apparent that her male partner had become separated, his phone had died, and was quite possibly actively looking for her up the trail. Ground searchers headed up towards Church’s pond to begin searching for the male subject. The subject was located a short time later coming down the trail with his dog, and he was escorted to staging. No medical was needed for either subject and they were grateful for the SAR response.

11/14/2016 – Lost/Stranded Hikers

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to two staging locations to locate two hikers that were stranded on the Flume Trail. It became dark during their hike, and they were not sure of where they were. Ground teams entered from the Tunnel Creek Station entrance, and ground teams, after being transported to the Dam at Marlette, entered from that direction. The team coming from the Tunnel Creek staging located the subjects first, so it was decided to walk them out in that direction. They were safely returned to staging.

11/1/2016 – Missing 10 year old

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Esther Bennett School in Sun Valley to search for a student that ran away from school and headed into the hills. Teams checked numerous dirt roads to the west, north and northeast of the school, while other teams checked residential streets in the area. The child ended up in Spanish Springs, asking for help from another child. That child brought him into his house and the father called authorities.
