8/28/2016 – Injured Hiker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, RAVEN, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Mt. Rose area to locate and transport an injured hiker. The subject was approximately one mile below Mt. Rose Peak, on the hiking trail, with a leg injury. A Hasty Team member happened to be on the trail at the time and came across the subject. Team members were able to drive into Frog Pond and start hiking from that point, along with some of them being transported by SVU to a location just north of the waterfall to begin their hike. Just before ground teams got to the subject, RAVEN was able to hoist a Hasty medic and other Hasty members down to her for packaging and transport. She was flown to staging at the Mt. Rose Summit parking lot, and transferred to an ambulance.

8/27/2016 – Disabled Boat at Pyramid Lake

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to Pelican Point on the report of a disabled boat with five people on board near the Pyramid. As teams were en route, the PLPD boat was able to locate the vessel and took them in tow. SAR assets staged at Pelican docks to make sure all parties got off the lake safely.

8/23/2016 – Overdue Subjects

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR began responding to the Gerlach area to search for an overdue couple that were supposedly hunting in an area near Vya. As teams were heading to Gerlach, some background checking was done by SAR Staff and discovered that they were actually hunting in the area of Leadville Canyon and were not to return until the next day. Fortunately, the missing couple came into cell phone reception and talked to SAR Staff, confirming that they were not overdue. SAR response was cancelled.

8/17/2016 – Injured Mountain Biker

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to the Sommersett fire station entrance to Peavine to locate an injured mountain biker. As teams arrived, it was learned that a companion to the injured mountain biker had driven up in his own truck and picked up the injured subject. A RFD medical unit met them on the way out, but the subject refused transport.

8/16/2016 – Body Recovery

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, and RAVEN traveled to Ruby Mountain area to assist the Elko County Sheriff’s Office in locating a subject who had gone missing on July 27th. After an extensive two week search with no results, archery hunters came across some personal items from the missing subject. Because of the rugged terrain and altitude, the Hasty Team and RAVEN were requested to help locate the subject. The subject’s body was located on the morning of August 16th, hoisted, and flown to the staging location.
