5/30/2016 – Lost Hiker in Dog Valley

SAR Staff, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR assisted Sierra County S.O. and SAR by responding to the Bordertown entrance to Dog Valley to search for a lost female hiker. Cell phone coordinates were not accurate due to tower coverage, but a cell phone map location, provided by the subject, provided a fairly accurate location. The subject had been camping with family at the Crystal Peak campground, but got confused as to her location while on a solo hike. Washoe County Deputies, coming in from the Verdi side, located the subject and transferred her to a Hasty truck for transport down to staging for medical evaluation. She was then handed over to Sierra County Deputies for transport back to her camp.

Shallow water line searches, divers, and dog teams were not able to locate the subject who was an eight year old child. No missing child report came from any parents, so the search was suspended for the evening.
