10/25-26/2015 – Overdue Hunters

SAR Staff, Air Squadron, Hasty Team, SVU, and WCSAR responded to areas north of Gerlach to search for two overdue hunters. Information from a family member stated the missing subjects had a hunting tag for area 011, which is in the far north section of Washoe County, bordering the Oregon border. Information was also given that they may be in the Lost Creek and Fox Mountain areas. Teams searched the main roads in all areas throughout the night. When morning arrived, the Air Squadron checked areas north of Vya. At approximately noon, it was learned that the hunters showed up in Gerlach, unaware of the search for them. They were tracking a deer they had shot, and did not communicate their change in plans with family members. The hunting area information was incorrect, but they were in the Lost Creek area, closer to the SR447 end of the route. Their campsite (the vehicle description given by the reporting party was incorrect) was not seen during the night portion of the search.
